A Brief History Started in August 2007, Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows brings coin shows to collectors in areas of Illinois where there are no coin shows. Our first coin show was held in Mount Vernon, Illinois, on Sunday, April 13, 2008, with a good collector turnout and praise from the dealers present. Why the need for coin shows in areas that don't have them? Not everyone can drive to Chicago or St. Louis for shows, whether the shows are once a year or once a month. Many collectors (and dealers) wish to have a coin show that is closer to them. And there are parts of Illinois where there is a market for such shows. With Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows, those markets can now be fulled. Who benefits from the Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows? The collectors and the dealers. They benefit from our shows because it brings the dealers and the collectors together so they can buy, sell, or even trade coins, currency, and other numismatic items. A definite win-win for everyone. How does Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows plan its coin shows? Planning a coin show is easier said than done. First, potential areas are researched to see if such a show is feasible. There are factors to this research such as the state of the local economy (such as average income, employment situation, and crime rate) and whether there is a place to host a show (such as a park district buidling, convention center, or a hotel.) Second, dealers in the potential area are contacted to gauge any feedback including on whether they would be interested in setting up if a show were to be held in their area. Third, check on an appropriate dates which would be best for a show if selected. Finally, a decision is made on whether a show would be held in the potential area. If a potential area is picked, it will be announced on this website and the show will be advertised in leading numismatic periodials (print and online). The first coin show from Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows (DOICS), the Spring 2008 Mount Vernon Coin & Currency Show, took about a year to plan, involving research on potential sites including the Illinois cities of Effingham, Carbondale, and Marion. Mount Vernon was picked due to its central location in Southern Illinois, reasonable yet close distance from St. Louis, Missouri, and Evansville, Indiana, plenty of eateries and lodging, and easy access from Interstates 57 and 64. In Spring 2009 DOICS will be having its second show location in Bradley. Bradley is a "suburb' of Kankakee, located 30 minutes from the south suburbs of Chicago. | Mt. Vernon Coin & Currency Show - Mt. Vernon The Mt. Vernon Coin & Currency Show is a new show for Southern Illinois. And its the very first coin show that Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows has done. Centrally located in the heart of Southern Illinois, the Mt. Vernon Coin & Currency Show offers collectors and dealers a chance to buy and sell coins and currency to dealers without having to travel long distances. The Mt. Vernon Coin & Currency Show - The Coin Show For All Of Southern Illinois! Kankakee Valley Coin & Currency Show - Bradley The Kankakee Valley Coin & Currency Show is a revival of a coin collecting tradition in the local area. Until November 1997, the Kankakee Coin, Stamp, and Sport Card Club operated two shows a year, one in the Spring, the other in the Fall. After the show, the club disbanded and thus putting an end to a tradition that was started in the 1950's. Since that time, dealers have inquired on when a coin show in the Kankakee area would return. Well, after a nearly 12 year hiatus, Doran Of Illinois Coin Shows is bringing back the coin show to the Kankakee area. Located in the Clarion Room at the Ouality Inn & Suites in Bradley, the Kankakee Valley Coin & Currency Show is not only close enough to the Chicagoland area but also close enough to downstate Illinois.
